How much do cybersecurity services cost for a small business in South Florida?

The useful answer is not a single monthly number. Cybersecurity pricing depends on what is being protected, how much responsibility the provider assumes and whether the engagement is a one-time assessment or ongoing managed service.

For a South Florida business comparing cybersecurity providers, the first step is separating four very different purchases: a security assessment, implementation work, ongoing managed cybersecurity and strategic/vCISO support.

1. Cybersecurity risk assessment or control review

A one-time assessment usually evaluates a defined scope such as Microsoft 365, identity, endpoints, email, backups, vulnerability management and governance. Pricing varies with user count, number of locations, cloud platforms, regulatory requirements and the depth of testing.

The most important question is not simply “how much is the assessment?” Ask what the deliverable contains. A useful assessment should produce prioritized findings, evidence, remediation ownership and a clear next-step plan—not just an automated scanner report.

2. Microsoft 365 security assessment

Microsoft 365 reviews are often scoped separately because the tenant may contain identity, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, application integrations and device-management controls. A good review looks at both configuration and coverage—for example, whether MFA or Conditional Access actually applies to the intended population.

3. Managed cybersecurity

Ongoing services can include endpoint protection, encryption oversight, email security, vulnerability remediation, identity controls, monitoring, reporting and periodic control verification. Providers may price per user, per device, per location or as a fixed monthly service based on scope.

A low monthly price can exclude important responsibilities. Compare who owns alert response, remediation, after-hours events, policy changes, onboarding/offboarding, reporting and evidence collection.

4. Virtual CISO services

A vCISO engagement is different from managed endpoint or help-desk service. It typically focuses on governance, risk decisions, roadmap development, executive reporting, policy oversight, vendor risk and compliance coordination. The price depends on cadence, complexity and how much leadership responsibility is delegated.

What changes the price most?

  • Number of employees and endpoints.
  • Number of Microsoft 365 or cloud tenants.
  • Remote workforce and unmanaged-device exposure.
  • Healthcare, legal, auto dealer or other regulatory obligations.
  • Current maturity of identity, endpoint, email and backup controls.
  • Existing MSP responsibilities.
  • Whether implementation and remediation are included.
  • Required reporting, evidence and executive oversight.
Buyer tip: Ask every provider to state what is included, excluded and owned by the client. Two proposals with the same monthly price can represent completely different levels of responsibility.

Should you hire an MSP or cybersecurity specialist?

It depends on the problem. If the business needs day-to-day user support, device setup and general IT operations, an MSP may be the primary requirement. If the business already has IT support but needs stronger security controls, independent verification, compliance evidence or executive security oversight, a cybersecurity-focused engagement can complement the MSP.
